Staff Network Groups
UCLan supports four Staff Network Groups with the aim to promote Equality, Diversity and Inclusion within their specific areas of expertise. The networks provide a forum for staff to discuss issues of mutual interest and raise any concerns in a safe and welcoming environment. They also provide support, signposting, networking opportunities and increase staff awareness of equality, diversity and inclusion activities. The networks run various events throughout the year supported by the EDI Team. Chairs of all the networks also meet with the EDI Lead several times a year. The groups are:
- Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) Network: The BME Network is for all staff who identify as BME or have an interest in race, faith and other race equality issues. The network aims to celebrate and increase awareness of the ethnic and cultural diversity of staff at UCLan and drive forward the understanding and promotion of equality. It also acts as a voice for BME equality and actively participates in the University’s Race Equality Charter Mark award.
- Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Network: The LGBT network is a network of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and allies staff at UCLan. It provides information and support for all staff on LGBT issues and inform, educate and spread awareness about the issues the LGBT community face. It is also a confidential platform for staff who are in need of any kind of support or a personal chat.
- Disability Network: The Disability Network is dedicated to ensuring that people with a disability have access to all relevant information, resources and advice. The network actively discusses and promotes disability equality, support, initiatives and changes which can make a positive difference to their lives. The network focuses on a variety of disability-related issues, e.g. accessibility and increasing representation, and provides a safe place for staff to share their experiences.
- Women's Network:. The Women’s network is open to all women who work at UCLan and offers a forum to share ideas and provide mutual support for career and personal development. Its aims are to provide a support network and a voice for women at UCLan, encourage more staff to engage with the gender equality agenda, and provide a range of events and activities that support women's careers, e.g. Athena SWAN awards and mentoring.
The Staff Networks are delighted to welcome new members and contributions from existing members.
Equality Leads and Disability Coordinators: UCLan also has a network of Equality Leads in each school or service area. Equality Leads have the valued role of leading and mainstreaming equality, diversity and inclusion in their areas. They also share best practice and experience through inter-team working across the University. Additionally, UCLan has a team of Disability Coordinators located in each school or service area who promote and support accessibility.
