The Engineering Innovation Centre (EIC) will be a state-of-the-art facility, equipped to a high quality standard, on the Preston Campus. UCLan is at the centre of one of the most intense engineering and manufacturing areas in the UK and the Engineering Innovation Centre will create an integrated space for teaching, research and knowledge exchange, resulting in higher education provision in Lancashire.

Our graduates are successful; working across the engineering sector. You can find them working in Formula One to the Ministry of Defence and from Airbus to BAE Systems. In 2014 UCLan launched the Engineering Innovation Centre (EIC) a collaboration of engineering teaching, research and innovation expertise at the University with industry, set to help shape the future of engineering skills development within the North West. The University is already investing in UCLan Engineering, including new staff and equipment.
The first stage of the development will see the construction of the Engineering Innovation Centre (EIC) a £30 million-plus state-of-the-art facility at the heart of the Preston - helping to further establish UCLan as a leader in engineering innovation.
Opening fully in 2019, the Engineering Innovation Centre (EIC) will capitalise on the location of the University to create an internationally competitive facility that will bring together the region’s expertise from within academia and industry.
The EIC will be equipped to the highest standard with technology demonstration areas and specialist work areas to create an integrated space for teaching, research and knowledge exchange. The EIC will have a continuous industry presence, and as a student you will work on exciting live showcase projects with industry partners, within a vibrant, innovative engineering community.

You will get involved with unmanned air vehicles for civil applications and benefit from pioneering research in the innovative use of graphene in aerospace engineering. Plus access to a wide range of facilities are available for engineering and computing with new state of the art facilities for 2017 include subsonic and supersonic wind tunnels, flight simulators
Civil Engineering is a new course to UCLan but builds on our expertise in the Construction discipline over the last 150 years founded on strong industry links and taught by experienced, professionally qualified staff. You'll enjoy speakers from Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), and related institutions for workshops from regional and national contributors.
You’ll have access to excellent facilities including new, purpose-built fire laboratories, supported by state-of-the-art computational fluid dynamics facilities, analytical and material characterisation facilities for fire chemistry and fire safety engineering, as well as small and intermediate scale experiments and facilities at Washington Hall, the UK’s international fire, training and development centre.
CONSTRUCTION AND SURVEYING
You will work on real-life projects and case studies alongside tutors who have close links with industry and can ensure that you get the skills and current knowledge that employers are looking for. The quality of our Building Surveying and Construction Project Management courses has been recognised with dual accreditation by both Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), ensuring the content and delivery is designed to maximise your career potential.
ELECTRONIC AND ROBOTICS
You’ll work on a wide range of projects, including group work that could involve our professional partners and collaborators - BAE Systems, CISCO, NASA, the NHS and the North West Aerospace Alliance among others. Have access to world-class resources through the Advanced Digital Manufacturing Technology (ADMT) facility. An opportunity to experience state-of-the-art manufacturing hardware and software, including CISCO industrial networks, manufacturing execution systems and industrial robots.
Top in the UK for mechanical and motor sports engineering courses with 100% overall student satisfaction (NSS2016). You’ll have access to extensive manufacturing facilities, which means you’ll gain the practical engineering expertise you need to get noticed by employers. The course is linked with the Jost Institute of Tribotechnology, meaning there is a collaborative working environment and a close link with a vibrant, research-active community.
You’ll learn from lecturers who’ve had successful careers in aerospace, automotive and rail industries, which currently includes a vehicle design expert with experience in a variety of vehicle types - for example the BAC Mono, and an expert in engine design and performance and former Technical Director at Mountune. Enjoy the opportunity for extra-curricular activities including a motor sports club, a professionally run Formula Ford race team, and Shell Eco-marathon car challenge.
