There’s lots of financial support to get you started – including a new travel bursary and a progression bursary, and you can also apply for a student loan, irrespective of age. We’ll help you gain study skills, and provide support for your wellbeing throughout your course.

A FOUNDATION YEAR COULD BE YOUR ROUTE TO A DEGREE

Here at the University of Central Lancashire we’re committed to helping you lay the foundations for degree success. If your qualifications do not meet the current admission requirements for direct entry on to an undergraduate honours degree programme, then Foundation Entry could be for you. Give us a call on 01772 892400 for help and advice and to apply for this September.

WHAT IS A FOUNDATION ENTRY DEGREE?

We have a range of over 200 Foundation Entry degree courses designed for students who have the ability to study for a degree, but don’t have the necessary formal qualifications to enter directly on to their chosen Honours degree programme. An additional preliminary year of study will give you the knowledge, skills and confidence to succeed at Honours degree level.

It also provides an ideal solution if you perhaps chose the wrong A Level subjects, instead of repeating a year at school or college, giving you the university experience from the outset. Many of our Foundation Entry degrees offer some flexibility within the subject area at the end of the first year, giving you more time to decide on your specific pathway.

These integrated Foundation Entry Degrees are different to Foundation Degrees, which are usually offered over 2 years by colleges, and require a further top-up to gain an Honours degree classification.

WHAT SUPPORT IS AVAILABLE?

You will receive lots of help with your transition to university life; this includes financial assistance, tuition in study skills and support for your wellbeing. The Foundation Entry Year is offered at a reduced cost of £5500; by applying for a four year integrated Foundation Entry degree, you will have access to student loan funding for the full four years of your course. A Foundation Year bursary will help with your fees as you progress into each year of your course, and there is a new travel bursary coming soon- offering rail or bus vouchers. See individual course pages for details on the fees for each specific course and for information about bursaries available.

Regional study groups are being established, so that you have easy access to local support near to home.

Your health and wellbeing is important – so there is a raft of provision, from counsellors to mentors, whenever you need some extra help.

WILL I STILL GET A FULL DEGREE?

When you graduate from your four year integrated degree course, your degree certificate will not mention Foundation Entry. UCLan’s Foundation Entry students often feature amongst our greatest success stories; they are more likely to attain a first or upper-second degree classification and are more likely to progress onto professional level employment or graduate level study than those undertaking a standard three year Honours degree programme.

FAVOURITE THING ABOUT UCLAN

Since I’ve been at uni I’ve made some amazing friends.

TOP TIP

Don’t worry if you don’t get the grades you were hoping for. Although I didn’t get the grades I needed, UCLan offered me a Foundation Entry place, which has prepared me for further study.
