The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan), strives to ensure that all employees feel they are valued and important members of the wider UCLan community. The UCLan Values

Pay and Benefits

Competitive salary progression

UCLan offers a highly competitive salary and grading system covering across all roles.

Pension scheme

UCLan offers a final salary pension, either the Local Government Pension Scheme or the Teachers’ Pension Scheme.

Holidays

UCLan provides generous annual leave of 30 days for support staff, or 35 days for academic staff. We also offer eight statutory holidays and four discretionary days a year.

Training and development

UCLan delivers many learning and development opportunities and encourages staff progression. We recognise that our staff are crucial to the success of the University. Employees will have an annual appraisal. We hope the appraisal helps staff reach their potential and it is also a chance to discuss future ambitions, personal development and identify training opportunities.

Relocation

In certain circumstances, relocation packages will apply to help new UCLan staff move to the area.

Work/Life Balance

At UCLan, we value the importance of maintaining a good work/life balance and recognise that we, as employers, must support our staff. UCLan employees have access to a number of support services:

Health and Wellbeing

UCLan provides a staff counselling service which offers confidential support to all staff.

The University has an Occupational Health Service, providing advice and guidance to promote and maintain the highest degree of physical and mental well-being of employees in all areas.

UCLan has a Healthy University (HU) initiative and leads on national and international work in this field. HU thinking is about bringing together the expertise and skills across our University and with external partners to work in a joined up way, making the most of our resources, creativity and skills.

Pre-school centre

Staff can have access to UCLan’s high quality, professional and Ofsted regulated pre-school and nursery, to help with childcare (subject to availability). The purpose-built nursery is located on campus and offers a safe, secure and caring environment for children from six months to 4 years.

Sports facilities

 

All UCLan employees have access to the University’s outstanding sport facilities. As an Olympic training centre for London 2012, UCLan Sports Arena provides excellent facilities for a range of sports.

Staff also have the opportunity to join the recently opened Sir Tom Finney Sports Centre with competitive membership packages. Situated on campus, the £15 million development is easily accessible and includes a state-of-the-art gym, studios and two sports halls.

Flexible working

Most support roles operate under the University's flexible working hour’s scheme. There are a range of working patterns across the different roles which include full-time, part-time, term-time only, evening and weekend working hours. Where appropriate, we can also consider job sharing.

Staff Network Groups

UCLan currently has four staff network groups concerned with equality and diversity. These are;

  • Women’s group

Travel

Commuting

UCLan staff can apply for a parking permit, with discounts available for those staff who travel on a car share basis. UCLan offers competitive staff discounts on train and bus travel. Cycling is actively encouraged as a mode of transport.

Cycling

UCLan are pleased to be working in conjunction with Cyclescheme to provide tax free bikes for work. For more information please visit www.cyclescheme.co.uk. There are also a number of secure cycle shelters across the University.
