In November 2016, Tim Steele, Vice-President International Operations, undertook a visit to Hong Kong and China to officiate at two awards ceremonies in Hong Kong and to catch up with longstanding partners in China.
On Tuesday 15 November, the awards ceremony for students graduating from programmes franchised to City University’s School of Continuing and Professional Education took place at the outstanding venue ‘The Kowloon Bay International Trade and Exhibition Centre, on the second floor rotunda, complete with crystal chandeliers. The event was officiated by Tim Steele, Vice-President International Operations and Louis Ma, the Director of SCOPE and was attended by Sophia Combrink-Chan, the Deputy Director of Education of the Hong Kong British Council. Also present from UCLan were Isabel Donnelly, College Director of Business Development/Dean School of Language and Global Studies and Alison Roberts, In Country Programmes Co-ordinator Hong Kong and Mainland China.
Large numbers of family and friends gathered together to celebrate the significant achievements of over 300 students, many of whom had combined their studies with full-time work, and who had studied a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in English for International Corporate Communication, English for International Business Communication with Japanese/Chinese; a range of Fire related programmes and for the first time this year, the MSc Fire Scene Investigation.
Sunday 20 November saw the UCLan delegation, which included Tim Steele, Vice-President International Operations, Andrew Ireland, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Culture and Creative Industries, Maria Murray, Head of School of Art, Design and Fashion, Aidan Worsley, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Business, Law and Applied Social Studies and Alison Lucas, Head of School of Business, at the magnificent waterfront location of the Intercontinental Hong Kong Hotel, Kowloon. Here more than 200 graduates from programmes franchised to the School for Higher and Professional Education of the Vocational Training Council attended with their families and friends, successfully graduated from programmes in Building Surveying, Quantity Surveying, Building Services and Sustainable Engineering, Advertising and Marketing Communications and Architectural Studies.
Both these groups of graduates have joined the community of successful graduates from around the world, who have studied with one of our overseas partners, and are the future leaders of business, industry and communities and we wish them all well in the future and will be keeping in touch with them via the alumni association.
