The Study Abroad Exchange Programme allows international students to study at UCLan and UCLan students to experience life at overseas universities.

Why Study Abroad?

As well as beaches, sunsets and selfies, studying abroad will have lifelong benefits in your personal and professional life:

  • Experience a new way of learning – a different academic way of teaching could give you a whole new outlook on your course.
  • Enhance your career – a period studying abroad will stand out on your CV and international organisations want graduates with experience of living or working overseas.
  • You will develop relevant, marketable skills such as problem-solving, communication, patience and perseverance, determination, self-motivation, analytical and study skills.
  • You will meet interesting new people, have new experiences socially and develop lasting international friendships.
  • Finally, you will definitely HAVE FUN! You should try to see as much of the country as you can – students who study abroad say that it is the best time of their lives!
  • For students that are studying abroad for a full year through either ISEP or one of our study abroad direct partners you can receive £1000* international bursary.

    *subject to funding being available

It may seem daunting at first but there is nothing quite like standing on your own two feet to improve your confidence and personal development.

Please note study or work placement abroad is only open to students studying at UCLan main Preston campus.

I’d recommend Study Abroad because it creates amazing opportunities. I’ve learned new skills, built brilliant relationships, and met people from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds."

I would highly recommend the Study Abroad experience, as it takes you out of your comfort zone and allows you to travel the world and experience places you might never imagine visiting.

Sophie Wilson, Forensic Anthropology, UCLan student who studied at Colorado Mesa

I’d absolutely recommend study abroad and UCLan! Students should work hard and enjoy what’s on offer, University helps to shape your future!

Andreas Nikolaou, Law, UCLan Cyprus (inbound)

This has been the best year of my life so far, I’ve made so many new friends from all over the world!

Isabelle Strong, Languages, Studying in Madrid

How does it work?

UCLan has exchange agreements with almost 100 universities from around the world, whether it’s Europe through the Erasmus+ scheme, our Worldwide Exchange programme where we have partners in the USA, Canada, Mexico, Australia and Hong Kong or ISEP, which offers up the rest of the world.

Study undertaken and passed abroad will be credited to your degree so whether you go for a semester or a year, it will not result in extending the length of time it takes to complete your degree programme.
