Shaping the future of engineering skills development within the North West. The Engineering Innovation Centre (EIC) will be a state-of-the-art facility, equipped to a high quality standard, on the Preston Campus.
Its aim is to exploit the location of the University at the centre of one of the most intense engineering and manufacturing areas in the UK and establish UCLan as a leader in engineering innovation. The Engineering Innovation Centre will create an integrated space for teaching, research and knowledge exchange, resulting in higher education provision in Lancashire which more closely reflects the economic priorities of the business community. The EIC project is already underway with additional investment being made in specialist staff and equipment ready for the full opening of the new facility due in 2019.
Did you know that by 2020 one in five graduates will need to become an engineer? The EIC aims to close the skills gap by inspiring a generation - producing an increase of 500 locally trained graduates per year.
UCLan is currently ranked 7th for the number of interactions with SMEs since 2008*. The EIC will boost levels of innovation through increased knowledge exchange activity with business, both SMEs and larger business, both nationally and internationally.
We plan to invest up to £200m over the next 10 years in the development of our Preston Campus. The EIC forms an early element and focal point in the Masterplan, providing a long-term asset for the area to support industries that underpin the Lancashire economy.
